Perfect Day Trips From Madrid – The Most Beautiful Town
Often ranked as the most beautiful town in Madrid, is the small town of Chinchón in the southeast of Madrid. Being 45 minutes outside of the capital by bus, it is perfect for day trips from Madrid.
One of its greatest selling points is its architecture, originating in the 15th century. Surrounding Chinchón’s Plaza Mayor are three-story Medieval buildings with balconies, supported by pillars. You can enjoy a nice meal and watch the bustling plaza below. The plaza is famous worldwide, and it has even been used as a scene in the 1956 film Around the World in 80 days.
So what is there to do in Chinchón?
1. Eat some of Chinchóns famous food
Chinchón is famed for its food, including delicious chorizo, roasted in a wood fire oven. Sit down, relax and take a bite – maybe even on the balcony in the Plaza Mayor?
2. Take a stroll down their thin narrow streets
Chinchón’s streets are not only Instagram worthy but are also packed with history. The famous painter Fransico Goya has a house there for when he used to visit his brother. Why not go see if you can find it?
3. Have a glass of wine at one of Chinchóns bodegas
Chinchón is surrounded by vineyards, so it’s no wonder it’s home to wine production. For that reason, you won’t have any trouble trying some wine in traditional bodegas (wine cellars /shops), located around the town. I personally recommend Bodega Del Nero, which has been in the same family for 5 generations, founded in 1870.
4. Overlook the whole town at Mirador de la Iglesia
From Mirador de la Iglesia, you can see pretty much the whole village, including the Plaza Mayor which it’s architecture looks fantastic from afar!
5. And if you can’t get enough of history…
Why not visit the museum of ethnology?
How to get there:
From Casa de Condal, take the 337 bus for a 45 minute ride.
It’s without a doubt that Chinchón is one of the best day trips from Madrid.
